The Cannes film festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries from all around the world. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
The 2018 edition makes it the 71st annual festival and is being held on the 8th to 19th May 2018 with the Australian actress Cate Blanchett has been named as the President of the Jury.
The psychological thriller Everybody Knows, written by Asghar Farhadi starring Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Ricardo Darín, opened the festival and competes in the Main Competition section. It is the second Spanish-language film to open Cannes, following Pedro Almodóvar’s Bad Education, which screened on the opening night of the 2004 festival.
